There were many reasons behind the opening of Pilates Body Barre. I began taking Reformer Pilates about 15 years ago. I fell in love with it immediately. It was the first time I had experienced exercise that not only offered the physical results I wanted, but calmed my mind as well.
As time went on, I began visiting studios in different cities and countries when I traveled. I wanted what some of those studios had to offer back in Northern Kentucky. As I looked, I couldn’t find anywhere close to home that had what I was looking for. I wanted a peaceful environment that made me feel calm just walking in the door, top of the line equipment and class offerings that would never bore anyone.
Beyond this, I also wanted other types of fitness classes that complemented Pilates all in one location. One of the reasons I loved Pilates so much was my main teacher across most of these years, Regina. I began discussing some of what I was wanting out of a studio with her about a year and a half ago. Together we saw an opportunity to offer these things to our community. I spent a lot of time researching what I wanted out of my studio as far as aesthetics, organization and overall feel. I knew I wanted more room for the reformers and I wanted everything to have its place; off the floor if possible.

After a long lease negotiation, we were finally off. The space I had to work with was basically a box that was 40’ wide and 100’ deep. I wanted to optimize the natural light from the front windows without giving up too much privacy for the clients who would be using the Reformers. Designing all aspects of the studio, before the existing interior was even gone, proved to be more challenging than I had anticipated. In the end, everything came out exactly as I had pictured it in my mind a year ago. From the signing of the lease to our grand opening was about 8 weeks. It was an exhausting venture, but well worth it. I couldn’t have done it without the help of many people. I hope the clients that come to Pilates Body Barre have the calming feeling that I do when they walk through the doors as they experience all aspects of the studio from the wonderful Allegro 2 Reformers to the artwork that surrounds them.
