St. Patrick’s Day Recipe: Going for The Green!

St. Patrick’s Day and the color green are inextricably intertwined. And it’s the day green liquids of all types come out of the shadows. Green beer, green cocktails, heck, the Chicago River even gets dyed green.

This St. Patty’s Day we’re taking a different approach with green liquids. A healthier approach! Read on for two organic green drink recipes and one green mocktail recipe. All are super tasty and good for you. Well, the green drinks are. The mocktail is just tasty. Enjoy!

Green Drink/Smoothie Recipes

Easy Starter Smoothie (makes 4 servings)


1-4 apples, cored and sliced
5 stalks of celery (*Celery leaves can be bitter so best to leave them out)
5 inches of cucumber
2 handfuls of spinach
1 avocado – or substitute frozen banana chunks – both make it very creamy
Water as needed


Use a high-powered blender (Vitamix or NutriBullet) to get the consistency that you like
Add in apples, cucumber and celery first
Add in spinach and avocado
Adjust the amount of water as needed
It is best served cold
If you want to make it a more full meal add in the protein powder of your choice.

Tip: You can make a large batch and keep it in your fridge in an airtight container, so you have it readily available for the next couple of days.

Nut Butter, Banana and Spinach Smoothie (makes 4 servings)

This is tasty because the nut butter and banana flavors are at the forefront. You won’t taste the greens.


2 cups of almond milk or coconut milk (or any milk)
1 cup water
4 cups spinach
2 ripe bananas (frozen is best but ripe is fine)
¼ cup nut butter of choice
1 tsp vanilla


Combine all ingredients and blend
To make it a more complete meal replacement, add hemp seeds or protein powder.

Traditional St. Patrick’s Day Green Punch (non-alcoholic)


1-quart lime sherbet
1 liter ginger ale or ginger beer


Fill a punch bowl with ice. Pour the ginger ale or ginger beer over the ice. Pour slowly as it will foam.
Scoop lime sherbet in (it might foam here as well) and combine.
Serve! (Now that was easy, wasn’t it?)
